A Pair of 19th Century French Gilt Bronze Figural Candelabra In The Manner Of Clodion
- Description
An impressive pair of 19th century French gilt bronze figural candelabra in the manner of Clodion, each featuring a finely modelled dark patinated cherub supporting arrangement of floral branches. The figures are raised upon ornamented Rococo Revival bases, decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves, floral garlands and cartouches featuring raised floral motifs. The upper sections comprise branching stems adorned with an abundance of finely cast flowers, leaves and foliage, interspersed with candle nozzles formed as open flower heads. The naturalistic modelling of the cherubs evoke the spirit of the famous French sculptor Claude Michel, known as Clodion (1738–1814). The undersides retain traditional assembly details, including wooden securing components.
Measurements: Height approx. 56 cm each
Condition: Showing age-related wear, rubbing and variations to the gilded surfaces, areas of patination and discolouration, and wear to the undersides and fixings.
