Antique 19th Century French Bronze Bowl By Ferdinand Barbedienne

£1,495.00

This exquisite 19th-century French bronze bowl was made by Ferdinand Barbedienne, a well-known French metalworker and manufacturer circa 1870s. The piece is decorated with detailed relief throughout the central part and depicts various scenes with cherubs and butterflies.

Butterflies represent powerful and profound meanings of life. The insects are metaphors for life, hope, change, and transformation. Parts of the panel are gilded. The bronze curved handles are decorated with lion heads and salamanders on the bottom. It's worth mentioning that a salamander is a symbol of immortality, rebirth, passion, and the ability to withstand flames. The signature "F. Barbedienne" is engraved on the bottom of the stand (please see attached images).

Period: Napoleon III, circa 1870

Measurements: Height: 19 cm, Width: 26 cm

Condition: Worn patina in places especially on the bottom of the piece, some marks and scratches. Otherwise good antique condition
