Antique 19th Century French Japy Frères Sunburst Wall Clock
- Description
An exquisite mid-19th-century French sunburst wall clock, featuring a finely carved giltwood case with radiating rays surrounding a white enamel dial with Roman numerals. The sculptural sunburst form creates a dramatic play of light and shadow, making this clock a striking decorative centrepiece. Stamped on the back with a Japy Frères's mark together with a number: 30156. Clock is in full working condition.
The clock is fitted with an original French eight-day movement by Japy Frères, one of the most celebrated and influential clockmakers of the 19th century, renowned for the quality and reliability of their movements and recipients of multiple awards at international exhibitions.
The giltwood retains a warm, rich patina, beautifully mellowed with age, highlighting the hand-carved rays and subtle variations that attest to its craftsmanship. The enamel dial is clear and elegant, with delicate black steel hands, preserving the refined balance typical of French decorative clocks of this period.
