- Description
A wonderful large sterling silver locket made in 1882, at the height of the Aesthetic Movement. The front face is hand-engraved with a naturalistic spray of garden flowers and foliage. Four oxidised roundels, each centred by a star-flower motif, punctuate the oval border at the cardinal points, with a ring of hatched triangles running between them.
The locket opens to reveal two oval frames, original to the piece, suitable for photographs or portrait miniatures. The interior retains its original silver finish.
Fully hallmarked for 1882 with the maker’s mark for Robinson & McKewan.
Weight: approximately 16.74g
Dimensions: 48 x 38mm
Good antique condition, some wear and scratches.
