Antique Victorian 9ct Gold Back & Front Oval Locket Pendant

A beautiful Victorian 9ct gold front and back with an ornate cast border of scrolling acanthus leaves and rococo flourishes. The central panel is hand-engraved with a swallow in flight among flowering branches, a motif deeply embedded in Victorian jewellery, symbolising freedom, love, and the natural world. The locket opens on its original hinge to reveal two oval frames. Stamped 9ct Gold Back & Front, a construction method widely used by British jewellers during the Victorian era, in which the front and reverse panels are 9ct gold with a base metal interior frame and hinge, allowing for a lightweight yet beautifully substantial piece.
